Farm Camp Summer 2013

Registration for Happy Hens Farm Camp for Summer 2013 is open.  We have scheduled two weeks again this summer:  June 24th - June 28th and July 15th - July 19th.  Camp hours are from 9 am to 3:30 pm.  This is our second year of farm camp and we look forward to another great time with our campers.  Everyday is a blend of farm work and animal care, farm-related crafts, gardening, storytelling and fun.  Registration is limited to 20 children per camp so early registration is recommended.  To download our flyer and registration forms click here to visit our Farm Camp page.

Sheep in the Vineyard

I lease 100 acres of pasture owned by a local vineyard. This year they asked me to have my sheep graze the actual vineyard while the vines are dormant in order to manage the vegetation that grows around the vines. A perfect green solution that benefits the environment, the soil and the sheep!

Happy Hens Farm Dog Treats

Ranch dog approved!  We now have dog treats for sale  made from our own fresh meats.  My dogs love them and I'm thrilled to be able to give them such a nutritious snack made from our grass-fed beef, lamb, goat and pastured pork.  Ranch boss dog Jack gives them a big thumbs up!  Bow wow!

The end of a good day...

Free Beef!

Happy Presidents' Day.  We couldn't figure out what to put on sale so we decided to give you a free pound of our 100% ground beef with every $30 purchase of our meat (beef, lamb, pork and goat).  And yes -- we have lots of eggs again.  The chickens have been laying like crazy!

80 Lambs and Counting...

Lambing has been well underway on the farm.  Almost all my ewes twin.  I was expecting most of the lambs in March but obviously the rams got a jump start on things.  One of my turkey hens has begun her nest and the chickens are laying eggs like crazy again.  The fruit trees are budding out and Priscilla and June, my two Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs, are pregnant.  Sounds like an early Spring to me!
